Nepal Cricket suspends Sandeep Lamichhane after the issuance of an arrest warrant against him
Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane has been suspended by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) following the issuance of an arrest warrant in Kathmandu over an alleged sexual assault case.
It was made public on Thursday that a complaint against Lamichhane was lodged in a Kathmandu police station. The statement from CAN’s acting secretary Prashant Vikram Malla mentioned that Lamichhane’s suspension would remain in place, and he has been summoned to report to the police in Kathmandu, who are investigating the complaint.
At the time of the complaint, the cricketer was in the West Indies representing Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022. The Tallawahs also announced that Lamichhane, who has not featured in any of the three games for the side so far, would leave the tournament immediately.
Amid all the happenings, Lamichhane has broken his silence, stressing that he is innocent and ready to face the baseless allegations.
“I am INNOCENT & keep complete belief in the respectable laws of Nepal. I have decided to take a leave from CPL and go back to my country within a few days. I am ready to face all these baseless allegations. May justice be served to the innocent & right investigation to be done towards everyone involved. Hope the law acts equal to everyone,” Lamichhane wrote in a post on Twitter.
