SA20 League Auction: Full list of players, Costliest buys and Complete squads
The auction for the inaugural edition of South Africa’s SA20 League took place on Monday, where as many as 314 players went under the hammer. All six teams indulged in a bidding war in the action-packed auction process.
Tristan Stubbs was the costliest player in the bidding process as he fetched Rand 9.2 million (USD 520,000 approx.). Both MI Cape Town and JoBurg Super Kings went after the big-hitting striker, but it was SunRisers Eastern Cape who eventually roped in the star-in-the-making.
Uncapped Donavon Ferreira, who represents Titans in the domestic circuit, created a lot of buzz as well. Having listed his base price at Rand 175,000 (USD 10,000 approx.), Ferreira was snapped up by Super Kings for Rand 5.5 million (USD 310,000 approx.)
One eye-brow-raising incident happened when South Africa’s white-ball captain Temba Bavuma, who is set to lead the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, went unsold. Further, other Proteas stars, including Test skipper Dean Elgar, top-order batter Keegan Petersen and white-ball all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo found no takers.
