WATCH: Jasprit Bumrah smashes Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over – ENG vs IND, 5th Test

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, who is known for his toe-crushing yorkers in world cricket, created a world record with the bat in the ongoing fifth Test match against England in Birmingham on Saturday, July 2.

Bumrah, leading Team India after regular captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the match due to Covid-19, smashed England pacer Stuart Broad for 35 runs in the 84th over of the first innings on day two at Edgbaston.

The Indian quick hit Broad for two massive sixes (one came from a no-ball), 4 fours, a single and was helped with five wides in the record-breaking over.

The previous record of most runs in a single Test over was held by West Indies great Brian Lara, Australia’s George Bailey and Keshav Maharaj of South Africa.

What may be a bit embarrassing for Broad is that he, alongside Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya, is also the joint-holder of conceding most runs in an over in T20Is. The veteran England seamer conceded 36 runs in an over during a T20 World Cup match against India in 2007 when Yuvraj Singh smashed him for 6 sixes off consecutive deliveries.

Here is the video of Jasprit Bumrah’s record feat:

Bumrah’s blitz helped India in posting a big total of 416 on the board despite finding themselves in trouble (98/5) on the second session of play of Day 1. Both Rishabh Pant (146 off 111) and Ravindra Jadeja (104 off 194) hit centuries for the visitors. The duo added a record partnership of 222 runs for the sixth wicket.
