ICC ODI Rankings: Trent Boult dethrones Jasprit Bumrah to become No.1 bowler

Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who recently acquired the number one position in the ICC ODI Rankings for bowlers, has lost his numero uno spot as New Zealand pacer Trent Boult has reclaimed his top spot again.

Notably, Bumrah’s decision to sit out the final match of the recently-concluded ODI leg against England in Manchester has come at a cost as he fell one place on the rankings for bowlers. Bumrah’s absence from India’s playing XI helped Black Caps speedster Boult retrieve the top place.

However, Bumrah’s teammates Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya had some gains. While Yuzvendra advanced four spots to 16th on the rankings for bowlers, Pandya rose 13 places to 8th on the list for all-rounders. Chahal picked up seven wickets during the ODI series against England, while Pandya took six scalps and scored 100 runs.

Among batters, South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen has achieved his career-best third position following his match-winning 134 against England in the first ODI. The right-handed batter now has 796 rating points and is only behind Babar Azam (892) and Imam-ul-Haq (815).

Similarly, Aiden Markram, who smashed 77 in South Africa’s 62-run victory, jumped 15 spots to be No. 61, while David Miller also progressed by one position to be 16th.

Another major gainer in the batters’ rankings was Rishabh Pant, who played an unbeaten 125 against England in the final ODI. The wicketkeeper-batter advanced 25 slots to reach the 52nd spot.
