WATCH: Suryakumar Yadav’s astonishing helicopter shot off Alzarri Joseph during WI vs IND 1st T20I

Suryakumar Yadav hits a helicopter shot

After registering a clean sweep in the ODI series against West Indies, India were back under the leadership of Rohit Sharma to take on the Men in Maroon in the first of five T20Is in Trinidad on Friday.

The visitors carried the winning momentum in the T20I leg by beating West Indies the opening game to take a 1-0 lead. Captain Rohit and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik shined with the bat, smashing 64 and 41, respectively, to help India post 190/6 on the board in 20 overs.

While Rohit and Karthik both captured everyone’s attention with their attacking batting, there was another moment that grabbed the eyeballs featuring Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar came out to open the batting alongside Rohit. It was indeed a strange move, considering the amount of success that Surya has had in the middle order.

The Pune-born batter did impress with his short-yet-impactful knock of 24 off 16 deliveries. He kept his aggressive approach and slammed three fours and a six. In fact, his six off fast bowler Alzarri Joseph became the talk of the town.

It all happened when Joseph bowled a full delivery on to the stumps. Surya jumped across the popping crease to hit the ball over fine leg and it looked like an unorthodox helicopter shot.

Here is the video:

After posting 190/6 on the board, India restricted West Indies to 122/8 in their allotted 20 overs, winning the contest by 68 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin (2/22), Ravi Bishnoi (2/26) and Arshdeep Singh (2/24) all bagged a couple of wickets each.
