Twitter reactions: Spinners dominate as Australia thrash Sri Lanka in the Galle Test
Australia’s spinners dominated the proceedings on Day 3 of the Galle Test as the visitors defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to go 1-0 up in the two-match series.
The hosts’ batting collapsed as they lost 10 wickets inside 23 overs to get bundled out for 113, giving the Aussies only five runs to win the contest, which the tourists did off just four balls. Notably, it was Australia’s first Test win in Sri Lanka since 2011. Further, it was also the first occasion when Australia won in Sri Lanka batting second, as their seven previous wins came batting first.
Nathan Lyon was the star with the ball, finishing with nine wickets in the match and marched into the all-time top 10 Test wickets-takers. He got surprising support from Travis Head in the second innings, who went on to take career-best Test figures of 4/10.
Despite Lyon’s spectacular performance, all-rounder Cameron Green was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his crucial 77 on a difficult batting surface on Day 2 of the game.
Brief Scores:
Sri Lanka 212 (Niroshan Dickwella 58, Angelo Mathews 39; Nathan Lyon 5/90, Mitchell Swepson 3/55) and 113 (Travis Head 4/10, Nathan Lyon 4/31) lost to Australia 321 (Cameron Green 77; Ramesh Mendis 4/112) and 10/0 by 10 wickets.

The 1st #SLvAus Galle Test just lasted 920 balls – the shortest Test match that ended in home side's defeat since Australia beat New Zealand in the Wellington Test in 1946/46 which lasted 872 balls.

That it is Australia’s youngest batter who provided the perfect blueprint to succeed against spin in these extremely challenging conditions says both a lot about Cam Green the talent & also how much more confident Australia’s batting group is against the turning ball now #SLvAus

Australia win the first Test by 10 wickets.
An incredible morning of Test cricket, the Aussies had Sri Lanka in a complete spin.
But all the credit has to go to Khawaja, Green and Carey yesterday. Made tough conditions look easy.
