AB de Villiers heaps praise on Rishabh Pant-Ravindra Jadeja’s show in 5th Test against England

AB de Villiers on Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadjea

Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja impressed one and all with their splendid show during India’s first innings in the ongoing rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Notably, after being put to bat first, India were in a spot of bother when the tourists lost their five wickets for just 98 runs. From thereon, Pant and Jadeja completely turned the tables courtesy of their spectacular counter-attack. The duo hammered the English attack all over the park and added 222 runs for the sixth wicket to help India post 416 on the board in the first innings.

Both the left-handed batters went on to smash their respective centuries. While Pant scored 146 runs from just 111 balls with the help of 20 fours and four sixes, Jadeja hit 104 off 194 deliveries, including 13 boundaries.

Both Jadeja and Pant received high praise from all corners for their outstanding effort with the willow, which assisted India in having the upper hand over England. Notably, the visitors are leading the ongoing series 2-1. The last time India won a Test series was back in 2007 under the then captaincy of Rahul Dravid, who, interestingly, is the head coach on this tour.

Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers, on Monday, took to social media to laud Pant and Jadeja for their magnificent batting display against a quality bowling attack of England. De Villiers reckoned that the partnership between the two centurions is right up there with the best he has ever seen in the longest format of the game.

“Haven’t been home and missed most of the Cricket action. Finished watching the highlights now. That counterattack partnership from @RishabhPant17 and @imjadeja is right up there with the best I’ve ever seen in Test Cricket!,” tweeted De Villiers.
