Twitter reactions: Shimron Hetmyer’s late flourish powers RR to thrilling win over PBKS in IPL 2024

Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings in IPL 2024

The 27th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 saw a thrilling clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday. The exciting game, which went down to the wire at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, witnessed the Royals securing a victory by 3 wickets.

Punjab Kings set below-par total

Punjab Kings, electing to bat first after losing skipper Shikhar Dhawan to a niggle, could only manage a modest 147 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Jitesh Sharma (29) and Ashutosh Sharma (31) provided some late impetus with their aggressive batting, but the lack of significant contributions from other batters restricted the total. Yuzvendra Chahal (1/31) and Keshav Maharaj (2/23) were the pick of the Rajasthan Royals bowlers, picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals.

Royals chase ends in drama

In reply, Rajasthan Royals started confidently with Yashasvi Jaiswal (39) anchoring the innings. However, wickets fell consistently throughout the chase, putting pressure on the Royals’ middle order. Shimron Hetmyer‘s explosive knock of 27 runs off just 10 balls, including three sixes, proved crucial in keeping the chase alive. With 10 runs required in the last over, Arshdeep Singh bowled a few precise yorkers, but Hetmyer remained composed and secured the win for his team with a pair of sixes.

Kagiso Rabada (2/18) and Sam Curran (2/25) were impressive with the ball for Punjab Kings, while Arshdeep (1/45) picked up an early wicket. But it wasn’t enough as RR managed to clinch a thrilling win.
