Here’s the whopping cost of LED stumps being used in IPL 2024
The Indian Premier League (IPL) stands as one of the premier sporting events globally, renowned for its top-notch infrastructure and television production quality. Over the years, IPL has continuously evolved, leveraging advancing technology to enhance the tournament’s allure and grandeur.
In addition to enhancements in production and broadcasting, fans have been treated to the progressive evolution of stump technology, a visually captivating aspect of the cricketing extravaganza. LED stumps, introduced a few years ago, became a highlight as they had the feature of being illuminated with red light upon impact by the ball. While adding excitement to pivotal moments of the game, they also piqued fans’ curiosity regarding the cost of these innovative stumps used in IPL matches.
Today, let’s delve into the pricing of the stumps witnessed in the grandest T20 league.
Cost of LED stumps in IPLT20
In the ongoing IPL season, the investment in stumps is truly remarkable. Wickets are valued between a substantial INR 10-35 Lakhs, while the LED-equipped bails also command a significant price tag. Priced at a staggering INR 40-50 thousands these bails are among the most coveted equipment in the league.
The exorbitant costs of the IPL stumps can be attributed to the incorporation of highly precise light sensors. Each set of wickets undergoes stringent checks and quality assessments to ensure flawless performance during matches, driving up production expenses for these export-grade stumps.
The introduction of LED stumps aimed to elevate the spectacle of T20 cricket, particularly in terms of entertainment value. Replacing the traditional dark bails with LED counterparts not only enhanced the visual appeal for viewers but also aided umpires, including the third umpire, in making accurate decisions on close stumping or run-out calls.
