In a scintillating display of batting mastery, Pakistan’s batting maestro Babar Azam delivered a match-winning performance for the Colombo Strikers against the Galle Titans in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 at Pallekele. Babar’s exceptional innings of 104 runs off 59 balls served as the cornerstone for their triumphant chase of 189 runs.
Notably, Babar, who also captains the Pakistan national team, reached a significant milestone with this innings. He became only the second player in the history of T20 cricket to score 10 centuries in the format. This remarkable feat places him in the esteemed company of West Indies’ iconic batsman, Chris Gayle, who holds the record for the highest number of centuries in T20 cricket with a remarkable 22 tons.

The Galle Titans set a competitive total of 188/3 in their allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Tim Seifert‘s explosive half-century provided a strong foundation, complemented by valuable contributions from Lasith Croospulle and Shevon Daniel. Bhanuka Rajapaksa‘s contribution further bolstered the Titans’ score.
In response, the Colombo Strikers embarked on a scintillating opening partnership, with Pathum Nissanka and Babar crafting a robust 111-run stand. Babar’s century included eight fours and five towering sixes, leaving the Galle Titans’ bowlers in awe.
Babar’s heroics ensured that the Strikers secured a comprehensive victory by seven wickets, underscoring his exceptional prowess as a match-winner. His century-laden journey further cements his status as one of the contemporary greats of the game, capable of dominating across various formats and settings.
