New Zealand announces revised T20I squad for England tour following star all-rounder’s unavailability
New Zealand‘s cricket team faces a significant reshuffle ahead of their much-anticipated T20I series against England, as star all-rounder James Neesham announces his unavailability due to impending family commitments. This development comes in the wake of Neesham’s standout performance with Oval Invincibles during England’s domestic T20 tournament, The Hundred 2023.
Neesham, a seasoned player known for his all-round prowess, has taken the decision to prioritize the birth of his first child over cricket commitments. He was poised to rejoin the New Zealand squad after his successful stint with the Invincibles. His crucial, unbeaten 57-run contribution in the final against Manchester Originals was instrumental in securing Invincibles’ maiden title victory.
New Zealand’s coach, Gary Stead, has extended his complete support to Neesham’s decision. In a statement quoted by ICC, Stead emphasized the team’s family-oriented ethos, stating, “The birth of a child is a special time, and we are a family environment. We are glad to be able to support Jimmy in heading home.”

Cole McConchie Steps In
To fill the void left by Neesham’s absence, New Zealand have enlisted the services of all-rounder Cole McConchie. McConchie’s inclusion in the 15-member squad aims to maintain the team’s equilibrium and adaptability, especially in the absence of a key player like Neesham.
Notably, the eagerly anticipated four-match T20I series between New Zealand and England is scheduled to commence on August 30 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. With Neesham’s absence, New Zealand will be seeking to regroup and put forth a competitive performance against their formidable opponents.
Following the T20I leg of the tour, attention will shift to the One Day International (ODI) series, set to start on September 8 in Cardiff. The series presents another opportunity for both teams to showcase their skills and strategies in the 50-over format.
