WPL 2023, WATCH: Jemimah Rodrigues plucks a blinder to get rid of Hayley Matthews during DC vs MI clash

The seventh match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 took place between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. It turned out to be a one-sided contest where the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai completely steamrolled Delhi to complete their hat-trick of wins.

During the contest, Jemimah Rodrigues stunned everyone by taking a jaw-dropping catch to dismiss the in-form batter, Hayley Matthews. It all happened on the third ball of the 12th over, bowled by Alice Capsey. The bowler tossed the white leather outside off-stump, and Matthews tried to go for the full monty but couldn’t find the timing, and the ball went high up in the air.

Jemimah, who was fielding at long-off, had a long distance to cover, but she sprinted quickly and completed the catch with a spectacular dive. The Indian star dived forward and grabbed the ball with both her hands before throwing it into the turf in delight.

However, the incredible effort by Jemimah was not enough as Yastika Bhatia guided Mumbai to victory and maintained their unbeaten run in the 20-over competition. The Capitals, after opting to bat first, got bundled out for a mere 105 in 18 overs.

DC Skipper Meg Lanning was the top-scorer for her side with 43 runs off 41 balls, including five fours, while Jemimah chipped in with crucial 25 runs off 18 balls with the help of three fours. The rest of the batting unit couldn’t stand in front of a high-quality bowling display where the likes of Issy Wong, Saika Ishaque, and Matthews all took three wickets each.

In response, MI opener Yastika smashed 41 runs off 32 balls, including eight fours. Similarly, Matthews, who performed exceptionally well with the bowl, contributed 32 runs off 31 balls before Jemimah took her catch. Eventually, Mumbai chased down the target quite comfortably to win the contest by 8 wickets.
