Wasim Jaffer trolls Michael Vaughan after Bangladesh whitewashes England in T20Is
On Tuesday, Bangladesh celebrated a 3-0 clean sweep in the T20I series against England after defeating them by 16 runs in the third T20I at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
England, who had already lost the series last Sunday, chose to field first after winning the toss. Bangladesh’s opening batsman Litton Das scored an impressive 73 runs off 57 balls, helping his team reach a total of 158 for two.
England made a solid start in their chase, with Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan batting confidently and taking their team to 100 for one in 13 overs. However, the hosts fought back by taking crucial wickets. Taskin Ahmed picked up two wickets while captain Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman claimed one scalp each. Buttler & Co. eventually finished at 142 for six, falling short by 16 runs, and facing a T20I series whitewash (minimum 3 match series) for the first time in nine years.
Ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup, Bangladesh had beaten Australia 4-1 and New Zealand 3-2 in the home series. This series victory also marks the first time that Bangladesh has whitewashed a full-member team in a T20I series, which is a significant achievement for the Shakib Al Hasan-led side.
“We talked about showing character ahead of the series and that’s what we showed,” said Shakib after his team’s thumping win over England.
“We were put into a tough position but won the game. That’s the thing that will give us the confidence as we are build a team for the 2024 T20 World Cup,” he added.
In the meantime, Bangladesh U19 side’s batting consultant Wasim Jaffer posted a savage tweet targeting former England cricketer Michael Vaughan.
Jaffer and Vaughan had been engaged in Twitter banter over the last few years, and continuing on the same, the ex-India opener posted a picture of him wearing a Bangladesh training jersey.
“Hello @MichaelVaughan, long time no see #BANvENG,” Jaffer captioned his post.
