Twitter reactions: Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh shine in Australia’s thumping win over India in 2nd ODI
Australia steamrolled Team India in the second One-Day International (ODI) at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam , on Sunday.
Bowling first, the Aussies kept India under pressure right from the word go. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc came up with a dominating bowling performance and bagged his ninth five-wicket haul, helping Australia skittle India out for 117 runs only.
Starc finished with 5 for 53, while Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis bagged the other five wickets between them. It was India’s third-lowest total against Australia in ODIs. Former India skipper Virat Kohli with 31 off 35, was the only batter who could breach the 30-run mark.
Most 5-fers in ODIs:
- 13 – Waqar Younis
- 10– Muttiah Muralitharan
- 9 – Mitchell Starc
- 9 – Brett Lee
- 9– Shahid Afridi
- 8– Lasith Malinga
In response, the visitors finished the proceedings in 11 overs, winning the contest by 10 wickets. Both openers Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh smacked their half-centuries with respective strike rates of 170 and 183.
While Head smashed 51 not out off 30 balls, with the help of 10 boundaries, Marsh remained unbeaten on 66 from 36 deliveries, including 6 fours and as many sixes.
Lowest ODI totals for India at home:
- 78 vs SL, Kanpur, 1986
- 100 vs WI, Ahmedabad, 1993
- 112, vs SL, Dharamsala, 2017
- 117 vs Aus, Visakhapatnam, today
- 135 vs WI, Guwahati, 1987
“It was a bit of fun. Always nice to get a good start when you’re chasing a small total like that. I was hoping Head would get off to a flier, and I could play it slow. To be honest, I’ve been enjoying playing swing and batting up the order. (On Starc) He’s been brilliant, it is horrible standing at slip when he bowls because it flies at about 80 miles an hour off the edge. But it is great to see him bowl like this, we now have a rare chance to win an away series in India,” said Marsh after the match.
