Bangladesh announce squad for England T20Is; Shakib al Hasan to lead the side
Bangladesh is hosting England for six white-ball games, including three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and as many T20 Internationals (T20Is). The series began with the hosts facing visitors in a 50-over match at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday (March 1), losing the contest by three runs.
The rest of the ODI matches between the two sides will take place on March 3 and 6, succeeded by T20I games on March 9, 12 and 14. While England announced their squad for the shortest format games prior to the commencement of the 50-over leg, Bangladesh took a while to do so. However, they also have now declared their team for the T20Is that will be up against the English side.
Shakib al Hasan has been given the responsibility of captaining the home side in the 20-over format, while Shamim Hossain and Rony Talukdar have been recalled to the set-up after performing well in the recent season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Notably, Rony played his last T20I game against South Africa in 2015.
Three uncapped players, Towhid Hridoy, Rejaur Rahman Raja and Tanvir Islam, were also included in the team following their impressive performances in the recently held BPL.
On the other hand, experienced campaigners like Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain, Shoriful Islam and Ebadot Hossain, who were part of the Bangladesh squad for the 2022 T20I World Cup in Australia, didn’t find a place in the team for the English challenge.
This will be the first bilateral T20I series between Bangladesh and England. The two teams only met once in this format before, and England emerged victorious in that encounter.
Bangladesh T20I squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Liton Das, Najmul Hossain, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman (wk), Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nasum Ahmed, Nurul Hasan, Shamim Hossain, Rony Talukdar, Towhid Hridoy, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Tanvir Islam.
