Twitter reactions: Alex Hales, Oliver Davies shine as Sydney Thunder thrash Hobart Hurricanes – BBL|12
In a high-scoring encounter of BBL 2022-23, Sydney Thunder defeated Hobart Hurricanes at Lavington Sports Oval in Albury on Saturday to acquire the second spot in the points table.
Asked to bat first, Thunder batters demolished the Hurricanes’ bowling attack and went on to post this season’s second-highest team total. Opener Alex Hales continued his impressive form and smashed 77 from just 45 deliveries with the help of five fours and 4 sixes.
Hales was well supported by Oliver Davies, who also shined with the bat, hitting a brilliant half-century. Davies scored 65 off 32 balls and formed a sensational 105 runs partnership with Hales for the third wicket as the Thunder posted 228/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, an explosive 19-ball half-century from Hurricanes’ skipper Matthew Wade gave his side a big chance as they look well-set to chase down the target of 229. But Wade’s dismissal of Ben Cutting opened flood gates as the Hurricanes got bundled out for 166 with three overs to spare.
Brendan Doggett sizzled with the bowl for Thunder, picking up a remarkable four-wicket haul while conceding 35 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Cutting, who dismissed Wade, bagged one more scalp to finish with figures of 2-0-16-2.

Sydney Thunder have put that 15 all out mishap behind them and how. Walloping bowling units in their last few games and picking up a real head of steam.
Oliver Davies – was always a special talent but that was some ridiculous hitting today! #BBL12

Oliver Davies has got a strong base against the pacers. He has the power to tonk even the slightest fuller-length balls down the ground.
Moreover, Davies is more than decent vs spin too. The spin bowling of low to medium quality is unlikely to trouble him.
