T20 World Cup 2022: Bangladesh decides to raise controversial umpiring issue in a proper forum

Fake Fielding

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to complain about the poor and controversial umpiring at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 to a proper forum.

After a 5-run defeat (by DLS method) against India in Adelaide on Wednesday (November 02), Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan created a huge controversy by accusing Indian superstar Virat Kohli of ‘fake fielding.’

BCB’s cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus said that captain Shakib Al Hasan also requested the umpires to start the game after the rain interruption, a little late as the outfield was still wet, but his request was turned down.

“We have spoken about it [fake fielding]. You have seen it in the TV and everything happened in front of you. There was one regarding fake throw and we have notified the umpires about the fake throw but he said he did not notice it and that is the reason he did not take the review. Shakib discussed a lot about it with Erasmus and even spoke with him after game,” Jalal was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.

“Secondly, Shakib had spoken about the wet field and he asked that he can take some more time and let the field get dried and start the game after the field is dried. But… the umpires’ decision is final and that is reason there was no place for argument. There was only one decision whether you will play or not play,” Jalal added.

He further said that BCB has now decided to raise their concern regarding ‘controversial umpiring’ in a proper forum.

Bangladesh have now only one match left at the Super 12 stage of T20 World Cup 2022 and are almost out of the semi-finals race. They will take on Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, November 6.
