T20 World Cup 2022: Michael Vaughan lambasts Team India’s conservative approach after semi-final loss
Team India are being criticised from all corners following their massive 10-wicket defeat against England in the second semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 at Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
India, after posting 168/6 on the board, failed to defend the score as the English opening duo of Jos Buttler and Alex Hales made the chase a cakewalk and finished the proceedings within 16 overs. After the loss, many experts came out in the open and severely criticised the Indian team. The latest on the list is former England captain Michael Vaughan who slammed India’s outdated style of play and also reckoned that the Indian Premier League (IPL) hasn’t benefitted the Men in Blue, unlike the other country’s players.
Notably, India’s batting approach came under the scanner as they managed only 38 runs in the powerplay, as opposed to England, who smashed 63 without losing a wicket.
“India are the most under-performing white-ball team in history. Every player in the world who goes to the Indian Premier League says how it improves their game but what have India ever delivered? India are playing a white-ball game that is dated and have done for years,” Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph.
Vaughan also suggested that India should do some self-assessment as to how they have repeatedly failed to live up to the hype and said they can’t get away from criticism.
“India have to be honest now. What happens when India arrive at a World Cup? Everyone plays them up. Nobody wants to criticise them because you get hammered on social media, and pundits worry about losing work in India one day. But it is time to tell it straight. They can hide behind their great players, but it is about getting a team playing the right way as a whole,” Vaughan wrote further.
