Twitter reactions: New Zealand fight back as England too witness batting collapse on Day 1 of Lords Test

New Zealand fight back on Day 1 of first Test against England

The Day 1 of the ongoing first Test between England and New Zealand saw a bowlers’ domination as 17 wickets fell after the three sessions of play at the iconic Lords Cricket Ground.

Veteran seamer James Anderson and debutant Matthew Potts enjoyed a superb outing, with both picking four wickets each, helping the hosts to pack New Zealand’s first innings at 132 in 40 overs. Anderson bagged a 4-fer for 66 in 16 overs, while Potts took four scalps for 13 in 9.2 overs. Collin de Grandhomme (42) and Tim Southee (26) played some handy knocks to help the visitors cross the 100-run mark.

In response, England had a steady start with openers Alex Lees (25) and Zak Crawley (43), adding 59 runs as the Ben Stokes-led side looked set to notch up a big total. However, as soon as England lost Crawley in the 14th over, the Black Caps pacers did precisely what English bowlers executed. The likes of Kyle Jamieson (2/20), Southee (2/40), and Trent Boult (2/15) all picked up a couple of wickets each as the tourists restricted England to 116/7 at Stumps.
