Cricket South Africa names Women squad for upcoming multi-format series against England
Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Friday, announced the 15-member Women’s squad for the upcoming multi-format tour of England.
The one-off Test will be South Africa’s first red-ball fixture in more than seven years, having last played against India in 2014 in Mysore. When it comes to England, the last time they played a Test against the English side was way back in 2003. The current squad features as many as 10 players who are yet to make their red-ball debut, including captain Sune Luus.
Relieving news for the Proteas women is to see the return of star players such as Marizanne Kapp, Lizelle Lee and wicket-keeper Sinalo Jafta. The trio missed out on the recently concluded white-ball series against Ireland due to Covid.
Similarly, Lara Goodall, Anneke Bosch, Nadine de Klerk and Tumi Sekhukhune have retained their spots following impressive performances against the Irish side. Goodall was the top-run scorer in the ODI series vs Ireland, whereas de Klerk and Tumi Sekhukhune were the top wicket-takers in the T20Is.
“On the back of an exciting and convincing tour in Ireland, we are excited in having the three players back joining the squad in the United Kingdom. Kapp, Lizelle and Jafta will bring experience and seniority to the squad as we take on England. The three have been preparing well back home, and we are looking forward to having them in the squad,” said CSA Convenor of Selectors Clinton du Preez in a statement.
