T20 World Cup 2022: Former opener Virender Sehwag picks his India’s top 3 batters; no place for Virat Kohli

Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli

As the T20 World Cup 2022 is approaching, many experts of the game have started coming up with their predictions regarding what could be the combination of different teams for the multi-team event. Recently, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer had named his three seamers options for Team India for the 20-over tournament, which is set to take place in Australia from October 16 to November 13.

Following the bandwagon, former India opener Virender Sehwag has shared his thoughts in the context of the top-order batting combination of the ‘Men in Blue’. Sehwag has picked his top-3 batters but with a big twist.

Sehwag has named captain Rohit Sharma, youngster Ishan Kishan and stylish batter KL Rahul as his picks for the top-order slot.

Interestingly, Sehwag didn’t name former India skipper Virat Kohli who bats at No3 for India in the white-ball cricket. Notably, Kohli has been going through a bad patch in the international arena. Though, the Delhi-lad is a crucial member of Team India as he is the second-highest run-scorer (3296) for his nation in the shortest format and third in the overall list.

“India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20s. However, I would personally vouch for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul as the top three batters for the World Cup in Australia,” Sehwag told PTI.

“The right-hand and left-hand combination of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, or for that matter, Ishan and KL Rahul could be quite interesting for the World T20,” he added.

Sehwag also backed speedster Umran Malik to attain success in Australia. The former India skipper reckoned Umran could be India’s key bowler alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

“This IPL has given us many promising young bowlers, but Umran’s skills and talent will definitely earn him a place in the Indian across all three formats in the long run,” Sehwag added further.
