Meerut Mavericks lift the 2024 UP T20 title with thrilling win over Kanpur Superstars

In the final of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) T20 2024, the Meerut Mavericks triumphed over the Kanpur Superstars by 5 wickets, clinching the title at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

After winning the toss, the Meerut Mavericks elected to bowl first. The Kanpur Superstars posted a competitive total of 190 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Sameer Rizvi was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 57 runs off 36 balls, while Shaurya Singh contributed a quick-fire 56 runs off just 23 balls, hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes. Shoaib Siddiqui also chipped in with a solid 35 runs off 31 balls.

For the Mavericks, Yash Garg was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 47 runs in his 4 overs. Zeeshan Ansari and Vishal Chaudhary also took a wicket each, helping to contain the Superstars to a manageable total.

Swastik Chikara and Madhav Kaushik steer Meerut Mavericks to victory

Chasing 191 runs, the Meerut Mavericks got off to a shaky start, losing Akshay Dubey for a duck. However, Swastik Chikara and Madhav Kaushik steadied the innings with explosive batting. Chikara scored 62 runs off 31 balls, while Kaushik played a crucial knock of 69 not out off 43 balls, hitting 5 sixes and 2 fours.

Despite a few wickets falling towards the end,  Kaushik and Ritik Vats (20 not out) ensured that the Mavericks crossed the finish line with 196 runs for 5 wickets in 19.4 overs.

The Meerut Mavericks’ victory by 5 wickets secured them the Uttar Pradesh T20 2024 title. Madhav Kaushik was named Player of the Match for his outstanding innings that played a pivotal role in the chase.

This victory marks a significant achievement for the Mavericks, showcasing their strength throughout the tournament.
