Twitter reactions: Shafali Verma, bowlers thump Gujarat Giants as Delhi Capitals reach the WPL 2024 final

Delhi Capitals (DC) put on a dominant display to conclude the WPL 2024 league stage in style, thrashing the Gujarat Giants (GG) by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. This emphatic victory not only secures their place in the final but also sees them finish atop the points table.

DC bowlers restrict Giants to 126:

The demolition began with a clinical bowling performance from the Capitals. Marizanne Kapp picked up two crucial wickets within the powerplay, dismissing both openers – Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt – to claim the purple cap for the season. Minnu Mani, replacing Titas Sadhu, chipped in with two wickets as well, including the prized scalp of Ashleigh Gardner. Shikha Pandey also joined the party, taking two wickets to restrict the Giants to a paltry 126/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Shafali Verma stars in easy chase:

Chasing a modest target, the Capitals openers, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, got off to a flying start. However, Lanning was unfortunate to be run out after a brisk cameo. Unfazed, Verma took center stage, carving a blistering 71 not out off just 37 balls, laced with 7 fours and 5 sixes. Jemimah Rodrigues ably supported Verma with an unbeaten 38 off 28 balls, ensuring a comfortable win for DC with 41 balls to spare.

DC await opponent for the WPL 2024 final:

With their place in the final secured, the Delhi side will now await the winner of the upcoming Eliminator clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), scheduled for March 15. This dominant display serves as a strong warning to their potential opponents, showcasing the Capitals’ well-rounded performance with both bat and ball.
