‘She’s a queen’: Fans react as Ellyse Perry’s all-round effort helps RCB eliminate Mumbai Indians and secure final berth in WPL 2024

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 witnessed an enthralling showdown in the Eliminator match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). With high stakes and intense competition, cricket enthusiasts were treated to a rollercoaster of emotions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. In a battle of titans, RCB emerged victorious, securing their final berth, while Mumbai faced elimination.

The venue was set, the teams were ready, and the toss favored RCB, who elected to bowl first, aiming to put Mumbai under pressure early in the game. What followed was a gripping encounter that showcased both the resilience and determination of the players.

Ellyse Perry’s steadying hand after early collapse

RCB started on a shaky note with the bat and faced a few early setbacks as they lost three crucial wickets for just 23 runs. However, the tide turned with the arrival of Ellyse Perry to the crease. Perry, a stalwart of the game known for her composure under pressure, displayed exemplary skill and determination, anchoring the innings with a stellar knock of 66 runs off 50 deliveries. Her partnership with Georgia Wareham, who contributed a quickfire 18 runs, bolstered RCB’s total to a competitive 135/6 at the end of their innings.

Despite Perry’s heroics, Mumbai Indians remained undeterred in their pursuit of victory. Led by a clinical bowling performance from Saika Ishaque, Hayley Matthews, and Nat Sciver Brunt, who all picked up two wickets each, Mumbai kept the score in check and restricted RCB to subpar total.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr’s efforts in vain

Chasing 136 runs for victory, Mumbai Indians approached the target with determination and skill. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led from the front with a composed innings of 33 runs off 30 balls, while Amelia Kerr‘s brisk 27 off 25 deliveries provided crucial momentum to the innings. Despite this spirited effort, Mumbai Indians lost wickets in quick succession during the last few overs and fell five runs short of the set target.

Shreyanka Patil was the star with the ball for RCB. Shreyanka picked impressive two wickets and was well supported by the other bowlers involving Perry who also picked crucial wickets.
