IPL 2022: AB de Villiers comes up with a suggestion for RCB’s Virat Kohli to overcome bad form
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli has been struggling for runs in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Apart from his half-century in his side’s last game against Gujarat Titans (GT) and a handy knock of 48 runs earlier in the tournament versus Mumbai Indians (MI), Kohli has mostly been out of touch with the bat.
The right-handed batter has so far managed to score 186 runs in 10 matches at a below-par average of 20.67 in the fifteenth season of the cash-rich league. Quite a few experts have recently passed on their suggestions regarding what should Kohli do in order to regain his lost form. The latest to join the bandwagon is none other than former RCB batter and Kohli’s dear friend AB de Villiers.
De Villiers, who was known as ‘Mr 360’ for his brilliant strokeplay and virtuoso batting technique, has come up with a word of advice for Kohli. The former South African captain said he was fortunate not to have had too many bad runs with the bat during his career, and he sympathises with Kohli as it’s always a challenge to bounce back.
“As a batsman, you are only one or two bad knocks away from bad form. If it keeps coming at you, it is difficult to bounce back from it. I cannot put a percentage to it, but it is the mind and power of the mind which is the main battle,” De Villiers told AFP.
De Villiers reckoned that Virat has not become a bad player overnight and can easily come out of a bad phase, but the Indian superstar needs to bring some fresh energy and have a clear mind.
“You do not become a bad player overnight. Virat would know it, and I know it. I think it’s the way you think and set your mind. You need a clear mind and fresh energy whenever you play, and then you can find a way out of a hole,” added De Villiers.
