IRE vs SA: Tristan Stubbs’ maiden century seals ODI series for South Africa
In the second ODI of the three-match series between Ireland and South Africa in the UAE, the Proteas men dominated with both bat and ball to seal a comfortable victory by 174 runs.
Maiden ODI century for Tristan Stubbs
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, South Africa posted a commanding total of 343/4 in their 50 overs. Tristan Stubbs was the standout performer, smashing an impressive 112 off 81 balls, including 8 fours and 3 sixes. He was well-supported by Kyle Verreynne, who contributed a solid 67 off 64, while Wiaan Mulder added a quickfire 43 off 34. Contributions from Ryan Rickelton (40), Temba Bavuma (35), and Rassie van der Dussen (35) also laid a strong foundation.
Ireland’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Andy McBrine (1/43) being the most economical.

Ireland collapses under pressure
In reply, Ireland faltered in their chase, collapsing to 169 all out in 30.3 overs. Despite some resistance from Craig Young (29 off 21), Graham Hume (21 off 22), and Gavin Hoey (23 off 25), they were unable to build partnerships. The South African bowling unit, led by Lizaad Williams (3/36) and Lungi Ngidi (2/38), kept the pressure on throughout, with contribution also from Bjorn Fortuin (2/36).
After this win, South Africa are 2-0 up in the series and the final ODI will take place on Monday, October 7 at the same venue.
Player of the Match
For his brilliant batting display, Tristan Stubbs was adjudged Player of the Match.
“Thought the first game myself and Ricks [Rickleton] got out back to back and today I was a bit more focussed after Kyle got out. They bowled quite well and the wicket was a bit slow in the first innings. They made us hit to the bigger side and the rotation of strike helped us get through the middle period,” Stubbs said in the post-match presentation.
