BCCI official reveals who will replace Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar for the England series

The Indian team is preparing hard for their upcoming red-ball fixtures against England. However, even before the start of the Test series, the visitors have trimmed down the squad from 24 to 21 because of players’ injuries. The injured cricketers are Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan, who have been ruled out of the England tour.

It has now been learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to send the replacements in the next 24 hours. According to the Times of India, the replacements for the England tour are expected to come from the Indian camp in Sri Lanka for the limited-overs series. Since the ODI leg is over, it is expected that the squad for the T20I series could be trimmed, and a few players would travel to England.

“It’s a conscious decision on the part of the BCCI. Earlier, when it was just about one opener, the board decided there were two other options for that slot in Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul. But now, a good all-rounder and an upcoming pacer have also been ruled out. Given the length of the tour, BCCI will have to send replacements,” said a BCCI official in the known developments.

He further revealed that opener Devdutt Padikkal, who hasn’t yet played a single game in the Sri Lanka tour, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar could travel to the United Kingdom.

“Probably why Rahul Dravid decided not to play Devdutt Padikkal despite considering five replacements for Friday’s game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be in the mix too, considering he can bat and can be effective in English conditions.”

“That is the reason the replacements need to be sent at the earliest. We’re just 10 days away from the first Test, so they won’t be available for that game anyway. At least they should start working for the second Test, and even that’ll be close in case India are forced to play any of the newcomers,” the official added.
